the town had a total population of 478.
Geography
Hanalei is located at 22°12'24" North, 159°30'3" West (22.206653,
-159.500713)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of
2.1 km˛ (0.8 mi˛). 1.7 km˛ (0.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.4 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of
it is water. The total area is 20.73% water.
Demographics
As of the 2000 Census, there were 478 people, 193 households, and 115
families residing in Hanalei. The population density was 283.9/km˛ (736.7/mi˛).
There were 303 housing units at an average density of 180.0/km˛ (467.0/mi˛).
The racial makeup of the town was 57.11% White, 0.00% African American,
0.00% Native American, 18.41% Asian, 2.93% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from
other races, and 21.13% from two or more races. 4.81% of the population were
Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 193 households out of which 24.9% had children under the age of
18 living with them, 39.9% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a
female householder with no husband present, and 40.4% were non-families.
31.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone
living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size
was 2.48 and the average family size is 3.10.
