Stonington is a borough located in New London County, Connecticut. As of the
2000 census, the borough had a total population of 1,032.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area
of 1.8 km˛ (0.7 mi˛). 0.9 km˛ (0.3 mi˛) of it is land and 0.9 km˛ (0.3 mi˛)
of it is water. The total area is 50.72% water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 1,032 people, 556 households, and 260
families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,171.9/km˛
(3,071.2/mi˛). There are 723 housing units at an average density of 821.0
persons/km˛ (2,151.6 persons/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is
96.90% White, 0.58% African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.29% Asian,
0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more
races. 0.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 556 households out of which 13.5% have children under the age of
18 living with them, 37.1% are married couples living together, 8.3% have a
woman whose husband does not live with her, and 53.1% are non-families.

living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is
1.82 and the average family size is 2.54.
